- In the absence of the treasurer, President Rosey Lawrence reported that the PTO was reimbursed $1,200 because another entity sponsored the November speaker.
- $300 was spent on the Teacher Appreciation dinner.

- Donna Cunningham reported that in the past, the PTO purchased a camera for teachers to use. The camera is very much appreciated and is used frequently. She is now requesting that the PTO consider putting money toward the purchase of a laminating machine.
- Basket Bingo to benefit the Post Prom will be held on March 14, 2008. Tickets are $15 in hopes of raising $4,000.

- Grandparents Day is march 26, 2008.
- Congratulations to Naomi Gilles, Jen Montegen and Ben Hoffman in their spectacular placement in District Chorus.
- Pequea Valley was very moved when Karen Sinkoski led a spontaneous prayer service upon learning of the death of a Pequea Valley student.
5. Guest Speakers:
- Sue Martin reported that the Middle States Evaluation Committee now requires that the school present a profile of a graduate. The profile must contain the following:
What the student will know the value of
What the student will be able to do
What qualities and characteristics the student will possess.
- She presented the PTO with the current draft requesting that it be reviewed for any comments, additions or deletions. The draft is pending school board approval.

- Strategic Plan – The K Statement consisting architect’s drawings, etc. is in the process of being prepared. Once done, it is sent to the Diocese for approval and to discern financial feasibility. It will then be sent to 60 people for their opinion. It is hoped that the whole process including the capital campaign will begin this summer.
7. Old Business:
Christmas Cards and gifts for teachers were very much appreciated.
Post prom Update as reported aobve by Donna Cunningham.
8. New business:
- Discussion on the role of the PTO – Mr. Garrett sees the PTO as a useful and vital organization. The PTO is the voice of the parents, a forum for issues and offers a personal face to attach to the issues. The PTO is the direct link with the principal to ask why something in particular is not working.
It was suggested that PTO might introduce the organization to parents during Freshman orientation.
- On-line discussion is not desirable at this time because contributors are not readily identified. Parents can click on the “Contact PTO” link found on the LCHS website if they would like anything addressed. They may also attend any and all PTO meetings to discuss concerns.
- Volunteer opportunities – please see above for March Madness and Mini-thon. In addition, the magazine drive needs the following to count “turn-ins”. Shifts are normally for two hours and start at 9 AM with the hope that volunteers would be there by 8:30 AM.
Tues, Jan. 29 – 2 or 3 people
Fri, Feb.1 – 4 or 5 people
Tues, Feb. 5 – 7 or 8 people (two shifts needed this day. Second shift starts at 11 AM)
Fri, Feb. 8 – 6 or 7 people (two shifts needed this day. Second shift starts at 11 AM)
Tues, Feb. 12 – 2 or 3 people
- March 11 Academic Program – Curriculum books will be distributed prior to this date so that parents can ask questions as the meeting.
- Homework load –The curriculum at LCHS is homework intensive. Most students manage the homework load well. For particular problems, consult individual teachers and Mr. Garrett.
- School facilities – are available to school organizations. It is preferred that a staff member pertinent to the facility being used be present. However, if such a staff member is not available, the organization may still make use of the facility.
- NEW to PTO minutes- parents are welcome to comment on PTO minutes. To do so, please click on the “Parents” then “Contact PTO” link found on the LCHS website.
9. Announcements:
Next PTO meeting is the Academics/Curriculum Session with Mr. Discavage on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 7PM in the Library.

PTO Minutes - January 10, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by President Rosey Lawrence
and opened with a prayer. Present were Rosey Lawrence, Deb Johnson, Kim Roche, Donna
Cunningham, Dermot Garrett, Mary Jane Lehman, Pat Kirchner, Jeannette List and Mary-Jo
Jackson.
Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as written. Treasurer Deb Johnson
reported there is current balance of $7,342.62. Although there are no outstanding
bills there will be costs in excess of $2,000 for PTO funding of the Teacher/Staff
Appreciation Dinner to be held February 2.
President Rosey Lawrence led a discussion on ways to involve more parents in PTO
volunteer opportunities. Several ideas were put forth, including:
Having parish reps make personal contact with families.
Having parents volunteer to be contacts for particular classes (science, languages,
etc).
Publicizing the many already existing areas for parents to volunteer at LCHS that
occur on a regular scheduled basis (development office, athletic department, etc).
To put volunteer opportunities on the school web site.
To activate the new phone system to call for volunteers in a timely manner.
To better publicize the role of PTO to 8th grade families.
It is important to remember that parents are often involved in other areas of LCHS
and not necessarily PTO. However PTO is the forum for discussion on school wide
topics and is the central point for disseminating information and helping families
navigate the school arena. PTO is not just a fundraising body but is a place for
all families to share things to help LCHS. Anyone with ideas on how to involve more
parents in PTO is urged to contact Rosey Lawrence.
Development Report: Kim Roche is looking into obtaining class lists by parish to
help interested parents contact families from their area. She is also checking on
a directory bill that has not surfaced for PTO payment as of yet. Kim reported on
the upcoming Open House to be held January 29 from 12:30 PM to 3 PM. PTO will have
a table at the Open House.
Teacher Report: Donna Cunningham thanked the PTO for the cards, gifts and candy
at Christmas time. She also reported mid-term exams will be January 17-19.
Principal’s Report: Mr.Garrett reported that the capital campaign will be ready
to start soon, with Bishop Rhoade’s blessing. A maintenance plan will be part of
this campaign, as presently there are only two day custodians and two night custodians
for the entire school, forcing teachers to often clean their classrooms. A comment
was made on how this is not what our teachers should have to do! Mr.Garrett also
spoke about the new optional uniform blazer for boys and girls. The blazers are
available now through Uniform Solutions for $90. There are nine billboards highlighting
the school throughout the area and all feature LCHS students wearing the blazers.
New Business: Barbara Thompson from Barnes and Nobles came to speak about the upcoming
B&N voucher book sale to benefit LCHS. The book sale will be held January 28,
from 2 PM to 8 PM. Vouchers will be available for all families before the event.
PTO will have a table at B&N that day. The school stands to make a good profit
on this event which requires very little work on the part of families. Anyone interested
in more information please contact the school Development Office.
Announcements:
Magazine drive begins this month. Turn in days for money collections are January
31, February 3, 7, 10 and 14. Volunteers are needed to help count the money those
mornings. Please contact the Development Office for more information.
The memorabilia cabinets on the main floor are in need of updating. Anyone interested
in helping to dust off, rearrange, sort, etc the large supply of items the school
has, and attractively arrange the items in the cabinets, is urged to contact the
school to volunteer.
Next PTO meeting will be March 14 at 7 PM. Mr. Discavage will present information
on class choices and options.
All are encouraged to attend.
The meeting was adjourned by President Rosey Lawrence at 8:03 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary-Jo Jackson, secretary

then.
Teacher Rep Donna Cunningham reported the first quarter is now over.
There was no Principal’s Report.
Old Business:
Career Day date is yet to be finalized.
Post Prom committee is organizing a cookie dough sale and a spaghetti dinner on
the night of the December concert.
It was recommended that the guidance department have their annual PTO presentation
in November rather than October.

thanks to the volunteers who made this possible.
Mr.Garrett, principal, announced there are 795 students in the school and the year
is off to a great start. The cafeteria ladies are traveling to Baton Rouge to help
with hurricane relief efforts and will be leaving this Friday. The cafeteria will
be closed next week for hot food. Anything families can do to help with fundraising
in conjunction with this effort (such as setting up bakesale items during lunch)
would be appreciated. Please contact Mrs.Roche with ideas.
The PTO is a very important part of LCHS life and all families are urged to join.
There are many areas and events that could use volunteers, including picnics to
welcome new families, Career Day, post prom and teacher appreciation. There are
