Scholarship Updates |
Horatio Alger Scholarship – awards students who have critical financial
need, a minimum of 2.0 grade point average and have exhibited perseverance and integrity
in overcoming personal adversity. Apply on-line at
www.horatio-alger.org/scholarships.
Deadline for applications is October 30, 2008.
Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarships - any senior high school
athlete who has a 'B' average or better is eligible to apply, candidates are judged
on grades, athletic accomplishments and community service. Deadline for entry is
October 1, 2008. Students may apply at
www.wendysheisman.com.
The Clarence Schock Foundation Scholarships are awarded to entering
freshmen who are attending: Cheyney, Kutztown, Millersville, Shippensburg or West
Chester Universities. Eligibility includes scholastic record, financial need and
contributions to the community. Applications are available at each university listed
above and deadlines must be adhered to for full consideration by the university

Guidance Timeline |
This is meant to be a general guide to the Guidance schedule. Please check the school
calendar and school newsletters for specific dates. Students should also listen
for daily announcements and parents may call the Guidance Office.

August
|
Freshmen and New Student Orientation Day.
|
|
September |
Guidance Counselors will meet with all grade levels in a classroom setting. We will
cover the Guidance plans for each grade level, answer student’s general questions,
as well as give students the general timeline for their individual meetings with
Guidance counselors.
Back-to-School Night
Practice for the SAT and PSAT tests are offered at various times throughout the
school year. The practice sessions will cover four 1-hour periods. The end of September
will be the first offering this year; another will be in April. The design and structure
of these tests, as well as test-taking tips are covered. Various parts of an SAT
will be administered for practice as well. There is a $5 fee. |

October |
PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) The PSAT is designed in the same way
as the SAT. The PSAT, taken as a JUNIOR, is the qualifying test for the National
Merit Scholarship Program. Sign up for the PSAT is in September prior to the test.
There is a $15 fee for this test.
SAT I and SAT II tests are offered in October, November, December, January, March,
May and June. LCHS administers the test in October, November and June. Sign up deadlines
vary but are generally SIX (6) weeks prior to the test date. Information and applications
are available in the Guidance Office. There is a fee for this test.

AP (Advance Placement) tests are offered in the spring (May). These tests are for
advanced placement in college. Students are usually in an advance placement course
at LCHS or are recommended as qualified to take a test by their instructor. Sign
up for AP tests is necessary by February. There is a fee for this test.
