Mr. Jim Rothwell

Mr. Rothwell is the Science Department chairperson, teaching physics, mathematics, and engineering classes. He is also the moderator for the Stargazing Society.

Mr. Rothwell graduated from Lycoming College with a B.A. in Physics, B.A. in Mathematics, and a minor in Astronomy. He completed 40 credit hours of graduate work in Mathematics at the University of Delaware, subsequently earning his teaching certificate at Saint Peter's College (now Saint Peter's University).

This is his 33rd year of teaching high school, and has been at LCHS since 2008. Mr. Rothwell believes in being able to teach any given topic multiple ways in order to reach different learning styles, and applies the findings of neuroscience into his teaching style in order to help students form strong neural pathways to information; promoting long-term retention. He also believes in training students in solid study-habits and seeking out resources in order to begin habits for success in college, the military, or business.

Mr. Rothwell assists his wife with Heiress Gaming, a pop-up game store making appearances at renaissance festivals, steampunk conventions, comic cons, and other events in PA, MD, DE, and NJ. There he gets to teach attendees about a carefully curated selection of role-playing games, board games, and card games, and assists with the adoption of plushie owlbear cubs.
