Poetry Out Loud Competition

The competition, presented in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry – both classic and contemporary – through memorization, performance, and competition.

Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has reached more than 3.6 million students and 55,000 teachers from 14,000 schools nationwide. On Friday, November 30th, more than twenty-five high school students from Lancaster Catholic High School will participate in the Poetry Out Loud school contest held in the Old Main Auditorium at 1 PM.

At Lancaster Catholic, students will have the opportunity to recite works they selected from an anthology of more than 900 poems. Judges evaluate student performances on criteria including voice and articulation, evidence of understanding, and accuracy.

We hope to see you there.
